The Department of Inland Fisheries focuses its research and advisory activities on two main topics, Freshwater Fish Biology and Fish Population Genetics. Both topics provide input to the multidisciplinary advisory activities of the department.

The department is responsible for the management of freshwater and diadromous fish species in Denmark. Specifically, the department plans and monitors stocking activities, sponsored by the Danish Rod and Net Fishing License Funds.
